Privacy Policy
Effective September 29, 2026
This policy explains what SipFluent (“SipFluent,” “we,” “us”) collects when you use sipfluent.com and the SipFluent apps (the “Service”), how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By using the Service you agree to this policy and to our Terms of Service.
Information we collect
Account information. Your email address and a password, which we store only as a one-way hash. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your email address, whether that provider has verified it, and an account identifier from that provider. We do not receive your Google or Apple password.
What you add to the Service. Tasting notes and ratings, your cellar and the bottles in it, label and cellar photos, answers to study questions and mock exams, conversations with the Sidekick and meal planner, your study goals (for example the qualification and exam date you are working toward), and events you host or sign up for.
Location. Only the location you give us: a place or home area you type in, or your device's location if you press the button that asks for it and allow it. We use it to show tastings, classes and shops nearby. You can change or remove it at any time.
Age confirmation. That you confirmed you are of legal drinking age, and when. We do not ask for or keep your date of birth.
Payments. If you subscribe, payment is handled by Stripe. We receive your subscription status and plan, not your full card number.
Devices. If you turn on reminders in the SipFluent app, we store a push notification token for that device. It is removed when you sign out on that device.
Technical information. Like most websites, our servers record the IP address, browser type, pages requested and timestamps of requests. We use this to run, secure and troubleshoot the Service, including detecting and limiting abuse.
Cookies. We use a small number of cookies that the Service needs to work: one keeps you signed in, and one remembers that you confirmed your age. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
How we use information
- To provide the Service: sign you in, save your notes and cellar, give feedback on your tastings, schedule your study, and show events near you.
- To identify wines from label photos and descriptions, and to answer questions you ask the Sidekick and meal planner.
- To send messages you ask for or that the Service needs, such as email confirmation, password resets and study reminders.
- To process subscriptions and prevent fraud.
- To keep the Service secure, fix problems, and improve it.
- To comply with the law.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Information from Google sign-in
When you choose Sign in with Google, we request only your email address, basic profile, and sign-in identity. We use them solely to create your account, sign you in, and confirm that the email address is yours. We do not use Google user data for advertising, do not sell it, and do not transfer it to others except as needed to provide the Service or as required by law. Our use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. You can disconnect Google from your Account page (once you have set a password) or remove SipFluent's access in your Google Account settings.
Service providers
We use trusted companies to run parts of the Service. They process information on our behalf, only to provide their service to us:
- Google Cloud hosts the Service, its database and uploaded photos, in the United States.
- Anthropic (Claude) reads label photos and generates Sidekick and meal planner replies from the text and photos you submit to those features.
- TypeSafe (Jev) evaluates the text of some answers and wine descriptions, for example to mark written study answers.
- Stripe processes payments.
- Google and Apple provide sign-in if you choose them, and Google Workspace sends our email.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) delivers app notifications.
- OpenStreetMap provides maps and place search. Your browser loads map images from OpenStreetMap, and place names you search for are looked up there.
- Google Fonts and jsDelivr deliver fonts and page scripts to your browser.
When others can see your information
Your notes, ratings and cellar are private unless you choose otherwise. If you turn on sharing for a tasting, anyone with its link can see it. If you choose to appear on the leaderboard, your display name and standing are visible to other members. If you host an event, the people who sign up can see its details; if you sign up for one, its host can see that you did.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights, property or safety of SipFluent, our users or others, or in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, in which case this policy continues to apply to your information.
Keeping and deleting your information
We keep your information while your account is open. From your Account page you can download a copy of your data at any time, and delete your account, which permanently removes your account and the content in it. Server logs and backups are kept for a limited time and then deleted on a rolling basis. We may keep limited records where the law requires it, such as payment records.
Your choices and rights
You can view and update most of your information in the Service, download it, and delete your account. Depending on where you live, including California and the European Economic Area, you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete or port your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To make a request, email us at the address below. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
Age requirement
The Service is only for people of legal drinking age where they live (21 in the United States). We do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you believe someone under that age has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit, hashed passwords, and access controls on our systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International users
The Service is operated from the United States, and your information is stored and processed there. If you use it from elsewhere, you understand that your information will be transferred to the United States.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. If we make significant changes, we will let you know by email or in the Service before they take effect. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
